Some of our favourite celebrities have been having us on all these years.

After seeing the likes of Pippa O'Connor, Rick O'Shea, Piers Morgan and Louis Walsh on screen for decades, you really think you know everything about them. Well, you're wrong!

Irish a-listers are fond of using stage names, nick names and pet names- anything to sounds a little different really. Here, we bring you a full list of our favourite faces who have changed their names in the media.

Hozier

What is Hozier's real name, you ask? Well, the Take me to Church singer was actually christened as Andrew Byrne. Hozier made his presence known with the standout hit back in 2013, and has showed no signs of stopping since. A true Irish talent, we are so proud to be able to call Hozer- or Andrew- one of our own.

Pippa O'Connor

Pippa O'Connor

Yes, Ireland's style Princess is actually called Phillipa O'Connor. The mum-of-three has often recalled how our own mother affectionately called her by her birth name.

In her book, Pippa admitted that her mum was the only person to call her by her full name. She never called her Pippa.

Martin King

Martin King or Martin Boyle? Well, they are in fact the same person. The Dublin TV presenter changed his name after taking up a role on a pirate radio station early in his career. He also revealed that Martin Luther King was the inspiration behind the iconic name change.

He said: "The producer asked me 'Who are you're idols?' But Martin Best, Cruyff and Ali didn't sound right.

"Eventually I said Martin Luther King, but obviously I couldn't use Luther, so we went for Martin King. The rest is history."

James Patrice

James Patrice Butler

Ireland's top male influencer and rising TV star is actually named James Butler. The name Patrice happened by accident after studying drama in Trinity College Dublin. In the end, the name stuck and there is not a person in the country who doesn't know his name.

Aidan Gillen

He played the well hated character 'Little Finger' on Game of Thrones, as well as some other top chart roles such as Tommy Carcetti in the The Wire, Stuart Alan Jones in Queer as Folk, John Boy in Love/Hate and CIA operative Bill Wilson in blockbuster hit The Dark Knight Rises. Mr Murphy has clearly been bust with the amount of iconic characters hes played. It's hard to remember any of his names!

But Gillen definitely sounds more glam than Murphy so it is no surprise that the actor opted for a change.

Twink

Acting and singing since the age of 5, Twink has been an Irish entertainer since the 60's. But before her skyrocket to fame, she was known humbly as Adele King. Honestly, her actual name is probably as appropriate for celeb status.

This is no big secret though and she often goes by her real name for some of her appearances. It is hard to keep up.

Bono

Did you know Bono's real name is actually Paul Hewson? "Bono Vox" is an alteration of Bonavox, a Latin phrase which translates to "good voice" and he has been using the name since the 1970's.

The Edge

Just like his his U2 bandmates, the famed guitarist opted for a stagetime to help his career take off. His real name is actually David Howell Evans.

Bressie

Bressie

Bressie is the Blizzard's front man and the former boyfriend of model Roz Purcell, his nick name -Bressie- comes from his second name. His real name is Niall Breslin.

Chris De Burgh

The Lady in Red performer uses his mother's maiden name in the world of showbiz. However, the 69-year-old was born with the name Christopher John Davison.

The famous doctor's real name is Bernadette Anne. The name Pixie, which has become synonymous with her, came from a comic that her brothers were reading when she was born in 1971.

Gay Byrne

Not that much of a shock. But here you go anyway, Gay Byrne's full name is Gabriel Mary Byrne.

Vogue Williams

Vogue Williams

Her career began Irish TV series Fade Street, a version of The Hills which follows the lives of four Irish girls in Dublin, where she was known as Vogue Wilson.

As her TV work exploded and she made waves on the celebrity scene in Ireland and England, her name suddenly became Vogue Williams. Did you know that?

Rick O'Shea

You better sit down for this one.

The much loved Irish radio presenter is actually called Paul Crossan, not Rick O'Shea. Those names aren't even nearly alike.

Do you get it though? It sounds like ricochet, get it?

Graham Norton

Graham Norton has managed to claim international fame as the funny many who makes the celebs feel as if they are sitting on your living room couch. Slyly prying with questions, he excellently mirrors the aura of a best friend giving the goss.

However, before international fame on his BBC chat show, Graham William Walker is what he went by. We love the alliteration.

Piers Morgan

The ITV star has some deep Irish roots. In fact, his full name is Piers Stefan O’Meara. O'Meara is definitely more Irish than Morgan.

Enya

Orinocco Flow is one of the most iconic songs in the world but little is known about its singer, Enya- including her real name. The reclusive icon is actually called Patricia Brennan.

Mundy

Probably best known for his hit 'July', an Irish summer cannot go by without this jam being played through the airwaves. But before becoming a music star, Mundy was known as Edmond Enright. How prestigious sounding, we love it!

Louis Walsh

We really thought we knew Louis Walsh, but we guess we were wrong. All of these years on The X Factor, Popstars and Ireland's Got Talent have been one massive lie.

The music mogul is really called Michael Louis Vincent Walsh. You think you know somebody...
