Tara Moriarty - The Feel Good Collective
Your business was inspired by your own struggles with anxiety. What is the most valuable mental health tool you have learned along the way?
Anxiety should be managed and you shouldn’t ever try to erase it completely. What has worked for me is counselling; you are not expected to know everything about your mind and why would you? Speaking to a counsellor should be like any other appointment. If you are feeling like you can’t manage anxiety then speak to someone who is qualified to help you. Secondly, journaling is a godsend and I use my journal as my safe place to write everything down and get it off my mind and onto paper. It also helps to put situations into perspective.
What are your self-care must-haves?
My first go-to investments are my counsellor, my life coach (the incredible Tara Rafter Navigation Coach) and my health with David Young. My go-to products for a self-care pampering day are: Declaré skincare, Olaplex No.3 hair treatment, BPerfect strawberry tan, Sally Hansen nail polishes and BabyFoot peel.
What has been the biggest challenge with your business to date?
My business is solely based on Instagram so my sales are reliant on engagement which can be very difficult at times. This year I have made a conscious effort to start moving the business offline. I have always struggled with the creative side of business so I am really pushing myself outside of my comfort zone.
Best piece of advice you have received since setting up your business?
I set up my first business when I was 20 years old. It was in construction and I will always remember being told that a way to be and stay successful was to “Never be clever, always be smart”. So you have to stay true to what you believe in and build on that. Don’t copy or imitate. It has stuck with me for 16 years and I can safely say it has helped me spot who is trying to be clever and remind me to stay with what is working for me.
