Bressie has opened up about hitting rock bottom while presenting The Voice.
The celebrity, whose real name is Niall Breslin, has been a mental health advocate for many years now and does tremendous work for and with those suffering with their mental health and removing the stigma surrounding the discussion.
Bressie has opened up on the moment he hit rock bottom that ultimately changed his life for the better.
Speaking on his ‘ Where is my Mind ’ Podcast, Bressie told his listeners of his personal journey:
“Everyone’s journey is different, and in my case, I took the scenic route.
He admitted the lowest point in his life was 'the catalyst for change that totally altered the trajectory of his entire life.'
"I found a way out. " He added.
Niall says he didn't learn to listen to himself until later in life, admitting:
"Feeling nothing kind of felt safer than feeling everything. Growing up in Ireland in the 80’s and 90’s, it was probably a survival instinct. My professional, social and personal relationship all suffered."
"It took me to hit rock bottom to realise this wasn’t working for me anymore. When you hit rock bottom, you find a way out or you stay where you are, and I found a way out.
"But I’ll be honest, it was a messy and scary climb out. It was a long journey of therapy but when I opened that door, everything changed."
He says when he suffered a panic attic right before going on stage while presenting The Voice, he knew he had to do something to change:
"A panic attack ten minutes before going on a live show of the Voice which I was a coach on was my rock bottom. Jeffery was the name I gave my nemesis of a mind.I literally had a discussion with him that night and said ‘Jeffrey, enough is enough. We can’t be beating the shite out of each other anymore. It’s not working for us. I needed to get to know him.”
“Every time I attempted to meditate in the past, I would have a panic attack.”
Bressie went on to study a masters in mindfulness based interventions later on in life and has since established himself as a certified expert in the art of mental health and mindfulness.
In keeping with his mindset, Bressie took on an ambitious lockdown project of transforming rotting old decking in his home into a zen escape.
Being able to switch off can help prevent burnout and the physical symptoms of chronic stress, like hypertension, digestive troubles, aches, pains and heart problems. Enter: the meditation room, a new-age designated space to remove stress from your life.
After taking on a lockdown project of transforming rotting old decking into a zen escape, Bressie enlisted the help of leading Irish interior designer Geri O’Toole to help create the ultimate relaxation zone. Check out the results here.
