THE HAPPY COUPLE

Marie and Ciaran Smith from Cavan.

THE RECEPTION

Our reception took place in the Slieve Russell Hotel Cavan, a lot of My friends and family have gotten married there before.

We ended up staying for a family members birthday in October 21. we hadn't been there in years and fell in love with how relaxed and stunning the hotel was. The food was fabulous so we knew we had to book it for our venue.

THE PROPOSAL

We got engaged before Christmas in 2018. Ciaran just popped the question and we drank a lot of prosecco afterwards, we don't remember much from the night!

THE FIRST GLANCE

Both of our families know each other for years. As Ciaran says we just kept bumping into each over a period of weeks and the rest is history!

THE DRESS

I bought my dress in Sharon Hoeys and it was a Jenny Packham dress. It was only the second shop I went to. My best friend Blathin had got her dress there so I knew I was in good hands.

I had never seen myself in a typical bridal dress so I wanted to go for something more my style. I had another Jenny Packham in mind but it didn't suit me on. My sister actually pulled out my dress and I didn't really like how it looked but when I put it on it was so amazing and I knew that was my style. I was forced to try on three more dresses by my sister but knew I'd found it!

They were so helpful and extremely honest in Sharon's and their services in altering the dress was incredible. Sharon Hoey was the lady I dealt with on the first day and she was very impressive and had so many styling ideas for me. I would highly recommend them.

I had my makeup done by Joanne Peden and my hair by Karen Conroy.

THE PHOTOGRAPHER

Sheila Rooney. She is such a fabulous person and very talented.

THE BAND

We had 2 bands, Ukebox who played after the reception and during the meal and the Bentley boys for later on. We are big into our music and neither disappointed!

THE FIRST DANCE

We chose Somebody to Love by Queen. We wanted a song that everyone could join in on the floor and it's both of our favourite song.

THE HIGHLIGHTS

Having everyone around us! All our nieces and nephews, bar little Ruby who was unwell, she is doing great now. I have 15 and Ciaran has six, so we were delighted to have them! My sisters speech was amazing as well as my father in law's and my dad's!

Before the main course came out, there was over 50 people on the dance floor giving it socks including me and Ciaran and dessert got delayed because of the dancing! It made our day!

THE FUNNY FACTOR

Our Celebrant continually pronounced my name wrong throughout the whole ceremony. He had been told by Ciaran and my brother that he was saying it wrong before I arrived but still happened! Everyone thought it was hilarious including me!

THE STRESS FACTOR

No actually we didn't stress at all, we are bad organisers but we got there in the end!

THE HONEYMOON

We had a mini-moon of two days in Adare Manor. It's the best place I've ever been and well worth the cost! It was like a dream! We then spend two nights in the Westbury which is one our favourites, it was so relaxing and just what we needed after the madness and we were home on Christmas Eve. We have a cruise booked for later in the year too.

THE ADVICE

Don't stress, we had noting done, not even a guest list nine weeks out so it will be grand!
