Thousands of people are set to benefit from a €1,000 boost as a change has now come into effect.
A reduction of €1,000 in undergraduate fees has now been applied to all students' accounts reducing the cost of college for 96,000 students by 33%.
Students, or their families, who have paid the full student contribution of €3,000 are being refunded.

They have been asked to give their bank details to their higher education institution before the end of November to facilitate reimbursement of their €1,000 in December.
If bank details are not provided by the student, a credit will be applied to their account.
"If you are paying in instalments - as many families do - your second instalment will be reduced by up to €1,000 at the start of the second term in 2024. If you paid in full, your college will refund you by the end of the year," said Minister for Further and Higher Education Simon Harris.
As well as the €1,000 reduction in the student contribution, SUSI maintenance rates will also be increased from January.
In a statement on the SUSI website they write: "From January 2024, the non-adjacent maintenance rates will increase by €615 and the adjacent maintenance rates will increase by 10%."
This will make a huge different to students receiving the grant and their families.
Eligible students in the current academic year will see their maintenance grant payments in respect of January to May 2024 increase proportionately once this measure comes into effect in January 2024.
These increases will not be backdated to the start of the 2023/24 academic year.
All maintenance grant holders studying PLC and undergraduate courses, plus postgraduate students in receipt of the special rate of maintenance will benefit from these increases.
