Dancing With The Stars pro Karen Byrne says she never thought she was destined for television before landing her gig on the hit show.

The Ballyfermot native has always been a lover of dance but never thought she'd see herself on TV before landing her dream gig.

Speaking on the process of auditioning for the hit dance show, Karen admitted she didn't even think she would get a call back.

"I was a bit apprehensive about it [the audition]," the pro dancer admitted.

"I remember my coach said ‘Karen I think you should go for this’, and I just thought ‘Telly? Me? I don’t think so, I’m just used to dance shoes and the dance floor!’" She said on the Six O'Clock Show.

"I went to the audition and there were so many people so I was thinking ‘This is grand I won’t get the callback’, but there I was I got a callback into the production company! I thought they were bringing me in to tell me I didn’t get it but I was in!"

"When we walked in we had to do an interview on camera and I didn’t have a clue, I didn’t have any background in television so it was a bit strange but looking back it was one of the best thing I’ve ever done. I absolutely love it, the live television and dancing is one of those things where I go ‘I can’t believe this is my job’."

Karen has become a firm favourite on the show since she joined back in 2017, and it seems a talent for dance is in her blood as her mum was a champion Irish dancer.

Karen went on to meet her partner Jake Carter on the show back in 2018 when they took home the Glitterball trophy together.

She previously told RSVP Live she was delighted to see the show return after a one year hiatus due to the pandemic: "I love spending time with Jake but I was just so excited to see the show back on. For me, the best thing that I could ever have done.

"I mean, I have been dancing all my life but I never thought I would see myself on television. It is just a buzz that you just can't get on anything else.

"When the show was confirmed to come back, I was over the moon.

"This is my happy place at the minute but I don't want it to be over. People are saying there are only two weeks left but I don't want it to only be two weeks left. I love it.

"Jake is always there supporting me and with Nicolas he wanted him to go all the way.

"He lives through the show through me because he still wishes he was here dancing. Life is great with Jake but I love when the show is on, I don’t want it to end."
