Daniel O’Donnell led tributes to Kevin Prendergast after the country singer’s passing.
He died peacefully at home on Monday, 13 November, and will be remembered fondly by country music fans in Ireland and the United Kingdom.
Over the span of his 50-year career, he released popular albums such as ‘My Home in West’ and ‘Back to County Mayo’.

His death notice read: “The death has occurred of Kevin Prendergast, Carramack, Tulrahan, Claremorris and recently Lohan Park Brickens, Claremorris, peacefully at his home on 13 November 2023.
“Predeceased by his parents John Austin and Ann, brothers Sean, Brendan, Tom, Ray and Gerald. Deeply regretted by his sisters in law Marian and Eileen, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, relatives and a large circle of friends”.
Daniel took to social media to pay his respects, alongside a photo of him with Kevin.
He wrote: “It is with sadness today that I learned of the passing of Kevin Prendergast.
“Through the years Kevin and I were on many shows together. He was a true gentleman.
“My sympathy to his family at the sad time. Rest in Peace Kevin.”
Many friends and followers of his music shared their tributes as they sent condolences to his family.
One person said: “Thank you Kevin for the beautiful songs which we always loved listening to on Midwest and Galway bay fm. May your gentle soul rest in peace.
“Deepest sympathy to all of Kevin's family and friends.”
A second mourner wrote: “Sincere symphany to the Pendergast family’s on the sad passing of Kevin a wonderful singer fond memories dancing to him in Manchester in the 70s. May he soul rest in peace”.
With another person adding: “Deepest sympathy to all who mourn Kevin. May he rest in peace . I often heard him sing on Midwest Radio.”
Kevin was born in Carramack, but emigrated to Manchester in the 1960s. He started out by working on construction sites, before turning to music.
Some of the songs he sung included ‘Blacksod Bay’, ‘My Cottage by the Sea’, ‘My Old Home in Mayo’ and ‘Where the River Shannon Flows’.
The talented singer went on to tour both Ireland and the UK for five decades, before retiring and relocating to Brickens in his home county.
