THE HAPPY COUPLE

Shauna Dowling and Colm Kane, both from Co. Dublin.

THE RECEPTION

Due to Covid restrictions, we had to get creative! We had our very small reception in our back garden for immediate family. We had a chef cater for a classy afternoon tea, with a champagne reception, fancy sandwiches and desserts on vintage mis-matched porcelain and china. The garden was decorated beautifully. It was relaxing, intimate, and quaint. It was perfect.

THE GUESTLIST

There were 6 guests in the church and immediate family were waiting outside to cheer us on. We booked our wedding this year, so we knew there would be restrictions, but we had hoped to have around 25 people.

THE DRESS

I got my wedding dress online on ASOS. Wedding dress shops were closed when I was shopping around!

THE PHOTOGRAPHER

We used a local photographer, Simon Peare Photography!

THE HIGHLIGHTS

Seeing my daughter in her flower girl dress. My dad blessing our rings in the Church. My mam and Colm’s nanny dancing down the aisle on the way out of the church made everybody smile. And of course, marrying my groom!

THE STRESS FACTOR

I took a relaxed approach to the wedding planning. I was slowly gathering everything since Christmas, but most of the planning happened just a month beforehand. As Covid restrictions were changing all the time, it left no choice but to wait closer to the time to put everything together.

THE PROPOSAL

It was a set-up! A WhatsApp group chat was made with my family and I was told my nephew

was going to be doing family interviews for school. The interview destination was the bandstand in Dun Laoghaire Pier. So, on a sunny July afternoon my whole family were there recording while my nephew was asking me questions, e.g. what car do I drive, what do I work as, etc. Then he says “does anybody else have any other questions?” and Colm says yes! And gets down on one knee and asks me to marry him.
