When it comes to exercise and fitness, our attention has turned to home workouts the past couple of months.
The Covid-19 pandemic has caused lockdowns all over the world which means gyms are not as accessible anymore.
But thankfully we don’t need a gym to get moving and stay fit, and Antrim PT Caroline Girvan is a huge advocate of this.
The personal trainer and mum-of-two has become a social media sensation over the past year since the closure of gyms forced her to move her work online.
Caroline has now amassed hundreds of thousands of followers online who love to watch her workout videos.
RSVP Live spoke to Caroline about how we can get the most out of exercising at home and she offered us her top tips on toning up your thighs.
Thighs can often be a point of insecurity for a lot of people, but one simple exercise can really help to tone them up.
It is, of course, the humble lunge.
Caroline says: “Lunges are my favourite. There are so many variations - you can change the tempo, the depth, the range in motion, the time under tension. You can do single weight on one side, rather than double weights on both sides; there are so many different ways to do it.”
With so many different ways to change them up, you can get great results from incorporating lunges into your workout routine.
Here are the basic steps you need to know…
How to do a lunge
- Begin by standing up tall.
- Step forward on one foot until your leg reaches a 90 degree angle. Your back knee should remain parallel to the ground and your front knee shouldn't reach beyond your toes.
- Lift your front lunging leg and return to the starting position.
- Repeat on the opposite leg and alternate as often as you need to.
Once you have the basics completed, you can switch up your lunges just like Caroline suggests above - all while toning up your thighs. Success!
