Former RTE Radio DJ Nikki Hayes has opened up about seeking help for an alcohol addiction.

Nikki posted on her X (formerly Twitter) account that she will be entering into treatment on Monday.

The star, who's real name is Eimear O'Keeffe, parted ways with RTE in August of 2010.

In a statement posted on her social media account, Nikki said,

“Hi, I'm Eimear (some know me as Nikki) I am an alcoholic and this Monday I am being given a second chance by going into treatment.

“My family has been my lifeline and I'm hoping to get back to the person I used to be.Thank you for all your support.”

Fans of Nikki have flooded her comment section to show support for the former RTE star.

Users have posted “Well done Nikki, I hope it goes really well for you”, “Well done Im 15 years sober, the best thing I ever did. A whole new life ahead of you. Go for it”, and “Best of luck Nikki, you can do this! Just take it one day at a time, every day is a new day. Stay blessed.”

Other users said, “Every good wish to you Nikki. Be gentle with yourself and know that there will be a warm welcome waiting for you when you return to the airwaves.”, “Bless you Nikki, a very difficult thing to say publicly. Several celebrities have also come out in force to show support for Nikki at this time.

Illusionist, Keith Barry, posted, “Sending positivity your way.”, while TV & Radio presenter, Andrea Hayes, said “You’ve got this, sending healing blessings.”

Nikki has a long and successful career as a radio DJ, having made her start at East Coast FM, before moving to Spin 1038 and eventually joining RTÉ 2FM in 2003. She has also previously presented on Classic Hits.

In more recent years, Nikki has done some work as an agony aunt for Evoke.ie, and has worked with multiple mental health charities to raise the profile of the issues they deal with.

She has also released a book, titled Crying into the Saucepan, which details her struggles with Borderline Personality Disorder.

The book has received incredible reviews, and fans seem to love it.
