Dean’s devastated family and Hamilton Management released a statement today regarding his passing.
“It is with deep sadness we must tell you that actor Dean Sullivan passed away on 29th November 2023 peacefully following a short illness."
“Dean is best remembered as the longest serving cast member of Channel 4’s groundbreaking ‘Brookside’ playing the role of ‘Jimmy Corkhill’, making Dean a British Soap icon."
“To millions he was and very much still is remembered as ‘Jimmy’, to family and friends he was ‘Dino’.”
The cause of Dean’s death has not yet been confirmed.
Speaking to the Liverpool Echo in August, Dean opened up about his battle with cancer.
He said: “The way I dealt with it was that I just sort of put myself in the hands of fate. If this was my time, then this was my time so I was quite philosophical about it really.
“I know that people would worry themselves into an early grave as it were but I'm not that sort of person, I try to keep positive about things and I just got on with my life.”
Tributes have poured in for the soap star, as many fans and friends have taken to social media to express their condolences.
Writer Jonathan Harvey posted on his Instagram about the iconic Brookside actor: “I do love a soap icon, and they don’t come more iconic than Jimmy Corkhill. What terribly sad news. Beloved actor Dean Sullivan has passed away. My thoughts are with his many friends and family.”
Denise Welch, TV personality and actor, also commented on the sad news of Dean’s passing added: “So sorry to hear about the death of Dean Sullivan. We had some fun times back in the day. A lovely man.”
