When did Charley and Matthew get married?
Matthew popped the big question to Charley on Christmas Day in 2009. They enjoyed a long engagement and briefly split in 2013.
However, after reuniting they had a secret wedding and didn’t reveal it to their guests until the last minute. They pretended that the event was for Charley’s 30th birthday.
Her brother and Hollyoaks star Jamie Lomas gave her away, while her co-star Lucy Pargeter was one of her bridesmaids.
Speaking about their guests’ reaction, Charley told OK! Magazine: “That moment when we announced what we were doing and seeing everybody's reaction is the best moment of my life.
“This way we got to do it totally the way we wanted – it wasn’t traditional, we didn’t have a sit-down meal and there weren’t loads of speeches.”
Matthew added: “We couldn’t have had a better response. People just screamed for about ten minutes! It’s funny to think that our guests thought they were coming to Charley’s 30th party – then we told them it was our wedding!”
How many children do Charley and Matthew have?
Charley and Matthew welcomed three sons together: Buster in 2010, Bowe in 2015 and Ace in 2019.
The pair previously opened up about how their youngest was born with his umbilical cord wrapped around his neck.
“The umbilical cord was wrapped around Ace’s neck when he was born. It came off and he was passed to me but I could tell something was wrong,” Charley told OK Magazine.
“Ace wasn’t breathing at first – so the midwife had to press the panic button.”
Matthew added: “She said he’d cough and splutter, but he didn’t, so she had Ace on his front and was rubbing his back.
“Eventually – and it felt like an hour but it was probably just seconds – he coughed and was fine.
“By the time someone had come through the door from the panic button being pressed, Ace was breathing again, so it couldn’t have been long. Although it felt like a lifetime.”
