As the cold grip of winter tightens its hold on Ireland, weather experts from Met Éireann have issued a cautionary forecast, hinting at the possibility of snowfall in certain regions.
They have indicated that the upcoming weather conditions may take a freezing turn, with a notable drop in temperatures due to an easterly freeze.
According to meteorologist Aoife Kealy, "snow is possible" during the next week, with the coldest temperatures expected to reach as low as -2 and -3 degrees.

The chilling forecast has put the entire country on alert, as residents prepare for the prospect of winter weather making an appearance.
The anticipated snowfall is most likely to occur on Wednesday and Thursday, following heavy showers of rain, hail, and sleet.
According to FM104, Aoife Kealy shed light on the meteorological factors at play, stating: “An Arctic airmass is going to sink across us this week, bringing noticeably colder conditions than we’ve had lately. Daytime temperatures will struggle to get above the low single figures, especially from Wednesday onwards.”
Despite the cold conditions, Aoife provided some reassurance, mentioning that the likelihood of significant snow accumulations remains limited.
She explained:" Given the cold conditions, on Thursday and Friday, it’s possible that some showers will turn to hail or sleet with a chance of some snow, particularly over higher ground. But even where the showers do turn wintry, accumulations will be very small.”
The uncertainty in the weather forecast increases beyond the immediate week.
She highlighted the evolving nature of the weather patterns adding: "Uncertainty increases from the weekend onwards. Current indications suggest that conditions will remain colder than average with further showers, turning wintry at times. However, there is also potential for some longer spells of rain if milder air makes its way across us from the south."
As Ireland braces for the impending winter weather, residents are advised to stay informed about the latest weather updates and prepare for potential disruptions.
