Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow - Low temperature/Ice warning, urging people to brace themselves for a cold blast.

The warning, valid from 17:00 on Thursday, November 30 to 12:00 on Friday, December 01, forecasts temperatures plummeting below -3 degrees in many areas.

The frigid conditions are expected to give rise to frost and ice, transforming roadways into potential hazards for traveler's.

The announcement, issued at 12:15 on Thursday cautions residents to exercise caution during their commute as hazardous conditions develop.

Met Éireann emphasises the likelihood of icy patches forming overnight, rendering the landscape more challenging to navigate.

As per the latest forecast from Met.ie, tonight, brace for bone-chilling temperatures as widespread sharp to severe frost and icy stretches take hold.

The majority of regions will remain dry and clear, except for scattered showers persisting along the eastern and southeastern coasts.

Additional showers are expected to sweep into the west and northwest overnight, with the possibility of hail and sleet, and a chance of snow on elevated terrain.

Temperatures are anticipated to plummet to lows of 0 to -5 degrees, accompanied by light winds and the potential for some mist and fog.

Come Friday morning, the wintry elements of frost, ice, mist, or fog will gradually dissipate. The inaugural day of meteorological winter promises a very cold day throughout.

Scattered showers are on the agenda, particularly in the northern and western regions, though sporadic showers may also make an appearance along the eastern coasts.

Some of these showers may take the form of hail and sleet. Expect peak temperatures to reach 2 to 6 degrees, with just a gentle variable breeze.
