Met Eireann has given their verdict on snow hitting Ireland within days.

It comes after weather maps showed that the country should be prepared for up to 5cm of snow in parts of Leinster.

It was predicted that the icy conditions and below zero temperatures would be arriving before the end of the month.

The national forecaster looked ahead to the weeks to come as they shared their most up-to-date long range forecast.

From Monday, 20 November to Sunday, 26 November, there will be high pressure situated close to the southwest is signalling slightly warmer than average temperatures for the period in most areas.

Temperatures are expected to remain close to average along eastern coasts.

Met Eireann added: “Precipitation amounts are expected to be slightly below average in parts of the east and south of the country while in the north and east precipitation is expected to be slightly above average.”

From Monday, 27 November to Sunday, 3 December, high pressure is forecast to dominate Ireland’s weather for this week, with it steering weather systems away from our shores.

The forecaster explained: “Temperatures are expected to be slightly above average in many areas, however temperatures more around average along eastern and southern coastal areas.

“As a result of the influence of high pressure, precipitation is expected to be below or around average in most areas, with perhaps the far northwest having slightly above average precipitation amounts.”

During the following week, from Monday, 4 December to Sunday, 10 December, there is increasing uncertainty in the forecast, with confidence decreasing for the week.

However current indications do suggest slightly wetter than average conditions in most areas.

Met.ie added: “Although there is a chance that rainfall in the southeast will be closer to average. Temperatures are forecast to be around average.”

Finally, from Monday, 11 December to Sunday, 17 December, there are no strong signals.

They stated: “However, temperatures may be around average in week 4, and rainfall may be close to average in the midlands and east, but elsewhere rainfall may be above average.”
