Irish rugby fans have been warned to be wary of a bedbug infestation in Paris ahead of this weekend's clash with Scotland.
Thousands of Irish fans are expected to fly into the French capital this weekend, but tourists should know that Paris is dealing with an increased number of bedbugs in hotels, theatres and public transport.
Footage on social media shows bedbugs crawling over seats on the Paris Metro, with other videos showing swarms of the insects appear on cinema seats.
Some tourists have posted warnings about bedbugs being found in their Airbnb rentals.
In response to the infestation, Eurostar has confirmed it will deep clean its trains "on request or as soon as there is the slightest doubt" and French cinema chain UCG confirmed that one of its venues is being treated for bedbugs.
The news couldn't come at a worse time for rugby fans from Ireland and Scotland as their highly anticipated World Cup showdown is due to take place at Stade de France in Paris this Saturday.
The Parisian stadium will not only host Ireland v Scotland, but also two quarter-finals both semi-finals, the runner-up bronze final and the final.
France's Assemblée nationale has dubbed the bedbug problem as a "scourge" while transport minister Clément Beaune has agreed to meet with transport operators and users' associations "to reassure and protect" following multiple sightings of the pests on public transport.
However, France's health minister Aurélien Rousseau has said there is no need for a "general panic."
While uncomfortable and unpleasant, bedbug bites are not known to spread disease.
