Met Eireann have forecast a bright and sunny Saturday with temperatures expected to reach 20 degrees.

Met.ie reports: "Today will be dry with warm spells of sunshine for most places. Although high cloud through the day will make the sunshine a little hazy at times. Thickening cloud from the southwest will bring a little patchy rain to parts of Munster and Connacht in the evening.

"Highest temperatures of 16 to 20 degrees. South to southeasterly winds with be moderate, but increasing fresh at times along the southwest coast."

As for tonight, the forecaster predicts temperatures will drop to as low as 10 degrees, with rain and fog moving in from the southwest.

Met Eireann said: "A mild and humid air mass will move up over the country tonight. This will bring outbreaks of rain which will spread from the southwest overnight to largely affect parts of the south and west. It will be misty in places with hill and coastal fog too. Overnight lows of 10 to 13 degrees, in moderate to fresh southeast breezes."

Met Eireann has urged asthma and hay fever suffers to be weary of an increase in allergens in the air ahead of the thunderstorm due to hit the nation on Sunday.

The weather forecaster has asked the public to be prepared for the risk of thunderstorm asthma, which occurs when heavy storms hit on a day with a very high pollen count and cause symptoms of an asthma attack.

The forecaster warns: "Very high pollen risk during good weather. Thunderstorms from Sunday into Monday and Tuesday will bring the risk of thunderstorm asthma so please be prepared.

"This is caused by an increase in allergens in the air ahead of the storm but there is also a risk from certain spores during warm and humid weather. Grass, weed and fungal spores are the allergens currently airborne."
