"Gorgeous tribute to #ShaneMacGowan on @RTELateLateShow - what a genius he was," a fifth wrote.
Host Patrick Kielty then gathered a number of people to tell stories and share memories of Shane.
His Pogues bandmate Terry Woods pointed out one of the things that made Shane and his music so unique.
"One of the things about Shaun that really got me was that he was an immigrant," said Terry. "And his music reflected the immigrants in a huge way.
"A lot of his ideas musically were kind of vague memories of things he had heard years ago, maybe at home or when he was visiting Ireland. And he wasn't disrespectful of Irish music in any way, but he was able for me to make the cultural connection. That was why I joined The Pogues in the first place. I had never played Irish music that way."
Camille O'Sullivan also reflected on her experience of Shane's music.
"I had been given a mixtape when I was in school, and the two songs that I forever remember from it are A Pair of Brown Eyes and A Rainy Night in Soho," she said. "There was something about these guys, the anarchy was something off the charts."
