"When I was on here a couple of years ago I spoke about it, and I kind of felt, I'm after giving too much away here," said Keith. "And then when I seen the impact it had on some of the people, and even now to this day walking around the street, people come up saying how important it was to them and how it helped them. I'm very grateful for that.
"The one negative thing I have is that I think people think I walk around with a dark cloud over my shoulders, over my head the whole time! I'm far from it, it's about 5% of the time, just like everyone else, that I might feel like that.
"All the interviews I've done in the last couple of years, I suppose have been bleak enough, but genuinely I'm a big child and I love having the craic as well."
"I'm in a good place, that's all I can say," he concluded. "It's going to be constant to work on, I think it is for everyone. No one's ever going to figure it out, but I suppose that's the journey really."
Viewers were delighted to see Keith open up on the show.
"There’s a kind of vulnerability about #KeithEarls that makes him a better man than a rugby player, and he was a great rugby player," wrote one viewer.
Another praised: "Keith Earls is an absolute sporting legend. He was an absolute warrior on the pitch So many of us have mental health issues & Keith speaking out about his bipolar disorder has helped countless people. We are so lucky to have him."
"Great interview with the Irish legend that is Keith Earls on the @RTELateLateShow. Honest, open, genuine, the recent rugby World Cup and talking about the harder times in an Ireland jersey. Legend he is and gave everything each time he played!" another gushed.
Another wrote: "Every time Keith Earls speaks you can’t help but be drawn to him. Just so impressive and genuine. A legend on the field, but a hero off of it."
