In RSVP, we love to celebrate innovative and hard-working women who have taken the initiative to start their own businesses.
Here, we speak to Sarah Rigney, the brains behind fashion brand Fiercely Unfiltered, for her number one style tip and the proudest moment of her career.
What inspired the idea for your business?
When I left school I landed a merchandiser job in a well-known high street store. I absolutely loved that job but it did make me realise I wanted to have my own brand. So when I lost my job last year I took it as a sign to go for it, and Fiercely Unfiltered was born! I wanted to create a brand that encourages women to feel confident, sexy and beautiful without the pressure of using filters. Having a daughter myself, it’s so important to teach young girls and boys to love themselves no matter what their body type is.
What is your earliest memory of fashion or that sparked your love of clothes?
As a child I was absolutely obsessed with Sharpay, aka Ashley Tisdale, in High School Musical . I remember making my mam buy every single magazine that she was in and then I would make a scrapbook of all her looks. I’d then go to Penneys with my pocket money and try to recreate her wardrobe.
Your best style tip?
Coco Chanel once said, “The best colour in the whole world is the one that looks good on you.” The best fashion advice you can give to anyone is to be yourself! Wear what you love, not what society wants you to.
What is the biggest misconception or mistake women make when it comes to fashion?
So many women do not understand and love their body shape. Wear what suits your body and makes you feel like you own that room you are walking in!
What is the most challenging part of running your own business?
When I worked as a merchandiser that was my only job, but with your own company you are also customer service, social media, logistics, stylist, web design and so much more! Balancing everything, especially time, with also being a mother to a one-year-old is a lot, but totally worth it!
What woman in business do you most admire?
Suzanne Jackson, she has built an empire from the ground up and inspires me to work hard every day!
What has been your proudest moment to date in your career?
Our very first photoshoot! Even though I was winging it, I just remember taking a step back from all the craziness and thinking, “Wow, I’ve actually done this!” It’s early days for my brand but I am so excited for what is to come.
