Unless you are actively trying to get conceive or have the more common symptoms, you may not know you are pregnant.
While the classic signs like missed periods, morning sickness and tender breasts can clue you in, the lesser known symptoms are important to look out for.
And if all else fails, you can always do the easiest thing and take a pregnancy test.
Here are some of the less common symptoms that you could be pregnant according to the Mayo Clinic.
Moodiness
While our hormones are constantly changing, the flood of them you receive in the early stages of your pregnancy can make you unusually emotional and weepy.
Mood swings, where you quickly change from feeling happy and upbeat to feeling sad, irritable, or angry, can also happen.
Bloating
PMS can cause both physical and emotional symptoms such as bloating but when you’re pregnant hormonal changes during the early stages can result in this too.
Light spotting
You may mistake light spotting for a lighter period, however, it may be a sign you’re pregnant.
This is called implantation bleeding and it happens when the fertilised egg attaches to the lining of the uterus, which occurs about 10 to 14 days after conception.
The implantation bleeding happens around the time of a menstrual period but not all women experience this.
Cramping
Again, this is easily confused with menstrual cramping and can be overlooked however some women experience mild uterine cramping early parts of a pregnancy.
Constipation
The hormonal changes can cause your digestive system to slow down which can lead to constipation.
The hormone progesterone, which helps the uterus grow during pregnancy, makes your bowel more relaxed and sluggish.
Food aversions
We all know of someone who was pregnant and couldn’t stand the smell or taste of certain foods, but this isn’t the case for everyone.
Pregnancy can actually make you more sensitive to some odours or flavours which is caused by hormonal changes.
Nasal congestion
The increased hormone levels and blood production in your body can cause the mucous membranes in your nose to swell, dry out and bleed easily resulting in a stuffy or runny nose.
