Ronan Keating has spoken about becoming a grandfather for the first time.

He shared the new title he is going by, explaining that he prefers a different name over granddad.

The singer’s eldest son Jack announced that he had become a father to a baby girl this month.

Ronan just returned from performing concerts in Jakarta, Indonesia when he appeared on The One Show.

Chatting on the Monday show, he was greeted by his co-presenter Jermaine Jenas who started by saying: "Well said grandad."

The former Boyzone star confirmed the happy news with their viewers, sharing: “Yes I am. My son had a gorgeous baby."

The pair continued, as Jermaine added: "You prefer to be called something else don't you?" with Ronan mentioning that he wants to be called "Pops" by his new granddaughter.

Jack surprised his followers by announcing the birth of his daughter this month. He welcomed his first child with artist Keely Iqbal.

The Love Island star confirmed that they are not in a relationship, but they will be co-parenting.

"I am delighted to announce the birth of my little girl,” he told The Sun in a statement.

"Her mother and I have decided to keep her identity private for now and we ask everyone to please respect our privacy at this time.

"My daughter's mother and I are not together, however we look forward to co-parenting and giving our little girl the best support system that she needs.

"This is an exciting new chapter for me and my family and I am completely besotted already.

"I am so grateful for the opportunity to be a father and give my daughter the most amazing life."

Jack’s mum Yvonne Connolly also shared her new nickname, alongside cute snaps with her granddaughter.

In a birthday tribute to her son, who just turned 24, she wrote: “Happy birthday Jack. 24 years ago today I held you in my arms like this and you made me the happiest woman in the world.

“I’ve loved you every minute of every day since . I’m so proud of you and ridiculously excited to a Granny.”
