In a recent announcement, RTÉ has revealed a series of measures aimed at implementing cost controls for 2024.
These changes come in response to the challenging financial landscape, with a decline in TV license sales and the need to address significant immediate financial challenges.
As part of a broader strategy, RTÉ will be reducing planned expenditures by a minimum of €10 million and implementing a range of cost-cutting measures.

In a significant shift to its on-air content, RTÉ has announced several changes aimed at optimising production schedules and aligning resources.
The popular soap opera Fair City will see a reduction in weekly episodes, scaling back from four to three starting January 4th.
This adjustment allows for a production hiatus in July and August. While RTÉ will maintain the production of four episodes per week, only three will be aired during this period.
Additionally, alterations extend to RTÉ's in-house programming, with the suspension of Sunday evening summer factual shows in 2024 and the absence of an in-house Saturday evening entertainment show in the spring of the same year.
Furthermore, the eagerly awaited third season of The Money List will be deferred until 2025, with the second season, produced in 2023, scheduled for airing in 2024.
The transmission of Young Offenders is also postponed until 2025.
To meet budgetary targets, RTÉ plans to reduce the budget for acquired programs in 2024, accompanied by additional savings achieved through prudent production strategies in News and Current Affairs as well as Sport.
These measures include the initiation of a limited Voluntary Exit Programme aimed at achieving a headcount reduction of 40, with funding sourced from the proceeds of the 2017 land sale.
Additionally, there will be a continued freeze on recruitment and stringent controls on discretionary spending.
The organisation will further navigate cost constraints by postponing various capital and strategic projects, such as a planned brand refresh and the establishment of podcasting and short-form content units.
