Kathryn Thomas says she isn’t nervous about welcoming her second child at the age of 42.
The television presenter was talking to her followers on Instagram and gave them an update of how her pregnancy is progressing.
While she says she needs to slow down sooner than her first pregnancy with daughter Ellie, she is listening to her body.
She explained: “I was sick, you know morning sickness and all that for the first 5-6 weeks on this pregnancy which I never had on her [Ellie] so that was the big difference but apart from that I’ve been good, feeling healthy.”
Kathryn also shared that she is experiencing more pains that her last pregnancy: “Definitely more pelvic pain this time round and I’m much slower in terms of I feel heavier and I’m having to slow down a lot sooner than I did on the last pregnancy so I’m just listening to my body and doing that.”
She received many questions from women going through fertility treatments and who were trying to get pregnant in their 40s, they wanted to know if she was nervous about having a baby at 42.
“I personally wasn’t. I felt my body was fit enough, my mind was ready, same with Padraig [her husband] as well.
“I think it’s a big decision for people as the years go on and if it’s not working out for couples when they’re trying to have a family but look every couple is different, every women is different.”
Kathryn recommended that women “tune” into how their body is feeling and that you ask medical professionals: “If you have something that’s worrying you, if you’re worried about your age, what are the consequences at 40, 42 or 45.”
She said there are lots of tests you can do to ensure the health of your baby.
“Of course, at the 6 and 12 week mark you’re nervous and you want to be told everything is perfect.
“I didn’t feel anymore nervous at 42, than I suppose I did at 39 first time round.”
