Sarah Ferguson revealed the heartbreaking reason behind her marriage breakdown with Prince Andrew in a recent interview.
The Duchess of York explained that Prince Andrew’s role in the navy played a big part in their separation, mainly because she didn’t see him for many months at a time, telling US show Modern Hero: “It's so hard to comprehend because we're not normal. This is our fairy tale, and we're telling it our way.
“It was seven years, 40 days a year, I saw him. It was really, really difficult.
“It played into my abandonment. We both agreed we didn't fight hard enough to keep it together,” she said.
The pair wed at Westminster Abbey on July 23, 1986, where they were given the titles Duke and Duchess of York, but later announced their separation on March 19, 1992.
They share two children together - Beatrice Elizabeth Mary was born on August 8, 1988, while Eugenie Victoria Helena was then born on March 23, 1990.
An insider revealed that Fergie's settlement with Prince Andrew following their divorce left her with a comfortable fortune for both herself and her daughters.
A palace source told the Sunday Telegraph that the Queen provided a settlement of £500,000 for a new house, as well as £1.4 million placed in a trust fund for the Prince Andrew and Fergie's two children, Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice.
The settlement also included £350,000 in cash.
Under the agreement, Prince Andrew was responsible for paying for his daughters’ private school and university fees and modest monthly allowance, reports claim.
The Telegraph added that Sarah earned £2.2 million from her autobiography.
