It is going to be a very busy summer for Ryan Mack.
The Newbridge native will take to the stage at a number of high profile Irish festivals- including Tayto Park Fun Fest- as his solo career continues to go from strength to strength.
While he will be performing to thousand's of music lovers over the next four months, Ryan was once a reveller in the crowd himself. However, his stays at Oxegen and Electric Picnic over the years were not exactly glamorous.
He tells RSVP Live: "I went to Electric Picnic in 2017, I was in the bog standard campsite and there was urine everywhere.
"There was a little alleyway and people used to go to the toilet there. It got quite messy, so I am glad to be playing and not sleeping there this year."
Ryan continues: "I went to Oxegen in 2011 and my friend Mikey and I shared a cow tent and it attracted a lot of people who thought it was hilarious.
"It was the wettest festival of all time and our tent was drowned, my feet were in a puddle at the end of the tent. It was miserable and it end up on antibiotics."
This year will be a lot different because he will be at the other side of the barriers: "I am looking forward to it now. I have seven younger brothers so it is an exciting day out for me and my family. It is a great festival in such a family orientated time of the year.
"I have been lucky enough to be considered for a number of festivals this year. I have been planning to get on stage for the last couple of years, so it is a relief this year."
With seven younger brother at home, the 25-year-old admits that his home was almost like a jungle at homes.
Luckily for Ryan, he got a big break with quite young when Louis Walsh signed him up to be part of Hometown alongside the likes of Dayl Cronin, Josh Gray and Brendan Murray.
Speaking of family life, the handsome pop star explains: "The nearest brother to me in age is 23 and it goes right down to six years of age.
"I moved out as soon as I turned 18 because, as you can imagine, it is like a jungle in there. My brother Conor moved out around the same age as well."
And have his brothers ever used his fame to their own advantage? "One of my brothers Danny was texting a girl when I was in Hometown, he was only about 12 or 13 at the time.
"He asked her if she knew Ryan from Hometown and he name dropped that he was my brother. He tried to use it as a chat up line."
Leaving a family of ten meant that being in a band with five other lads was almost like a holiday for Ryan.
"There were six of us, so there was always three rooms with a double bed in each room. It was no issue for me because I grew up sharing a bed with one of brothers and I am well used to sticking to my own space and straying to one side.
"I used to share with Brendan Murray the whole time," he jokes.
Ryan gave his first solo television performance during season three of Dancing with the Stars earlier this year.
"I was definitely nervous because it was my first solo TV performance. I got it in one take as well which I was most nervous about.
"I got a great reception and people loved the performance," he says.
The singer performed the track Sofa, a song about a guy who has to stay on the couch of his girlfriends.
He explains: "My friend was complaining that his girlfriends’ Dad was a bit ‘Old school’ and he was annoyed that he had to sleep on the couch or the spare room.
"He snuck it to her house twice, they were the only times he slept in the bed with her. It is so American, very Saved by the Bell."
"It only really happens with parents who have daughters, not sons," adds Ryan.
