Holidaymakers heading to Europe anytime soon are being warned as a 'heat storm' is currently wreaking havoc across the continent, with temperatures of almost 50 degrees being recorded.
Half of EU territory is currently in drought, posing a major risk for wildfires.
While heat stroke and health problems are a major risk in temperatures so high, people often forget about other issues that can arise.

People are being warned not to leave their phones in their car in such high temperatures. Having a phone in an enclosed space in view of the glass window can cause it to be unsafe, as sunlight through glass increases the heat.
While it’s normal for your phone to heat up occasionally, the optimal internal temperature for mobile phones ranges from 0°C to 35°C, and temperatures between °C to 43°C are still considered normal. Anything above this is unsafe and you should take steps to cool down your phone.
A mobile phone battery can explode due to excessive heating.
Heating doesn’t only lead to your smartphone’s battery exploding, but can also cause other issues like battery drain, force shutdowns, or worse, the CPU melting due to extreme temperatures. All these are things that can potentially damage the smartphone permanently, or even cause serious injuries.
In order to avoid this, don't leave your phone in direct sunlight.
In order to avoid general overheating of your phone, follow the below tips:
- Use authentic and certified chargers
- Don't overcharge your phone
- Avoid using a physically damaged phone
- Don't put unnecessary load on your smartphone
- Take your phone case off
- Use low power mode
- Turn it off
- Do not put it in the fridge
